Knowledge about
camellia oil (tea-seed oil)
Oil tea tree, also called camellia plant, is an
evergreen small arbor and one of the important
plants in our country. It is a species with a wide
ecological breadth. It mainly grows in the hilly ad
mountainous regions between 18 and 34 of northern
latitude and 1000 and 1220 of eastern longitude, and
with an elevation between 100 and 800 meters. (The
main distribution area is in Hunan, China). The
trees have brown skins and are hard in quality and
texture. The oval asymmetrical leaves are green in
all seasons and have no apparent meshwork on the
back. The tea oil trees have a long growth cycle.
Each year they bloom in late October. The flowers
(both male and female) mostly are white without
handles. The florescence is two to three months. The
fruits ripen in next October. The flowers coexist
with the fruits to fully absorb natural nutrition
and essence. In folk words, it is "holding a baby
while becoming pregnant". The oil tree fruits are
global, peach-chaped, orange-shaped, olived-shaped,
or chicken-heart-shaped capsules. Inside the fruit
skin with floss and there are ten triangular or
diamond brown luster seeds. Since oil tea trees grow
in regions far from urban "three-waste" pollution
sources and free from pollution of fertilizer or
pesticides, so the oil extracted from fruits are
genuine green edible vegetable oil. Oil tea trees
like acid soil and grow in soils with a PH value
between 5 and 6.5. Besides, oil trees enjoy sunlight
very much. In case of deficient sunlight, the
production is greatly affected.
Heath Functions of Tea-seed Oil
Oil made from squeezing oil camellia is tea oil ----
a light-yellowed limpid transparent oily liquid with
a fragrant aroma---, a superior quality vegetable
oil. The oil contains no cholesterol, aflatoxins,
preservatives or man-made seasoning. The fatty acid
content is ideal since the content of unsaturated
fatty acid is as high as 90 percent or higher. And
the content of healthful oleic acid is higher than
80 percent, a highest content among the vegetable
oil. Therefore, reputation as "eastern olive oil" is
not an exaggeration.
Seen from its ingredients, tea seed oil is genuine
healthful oil because of its high percentage of
unsaturated fatted acid, especially oleic acid. Thus
the oil is easily taken in by human body and the
demand for oleic acid in increasing. The oleic acid
helps to clean intestines and moisten the lungs,
strengthen the absorption of stomach and intestines,
relax tension feeling, promote the secretion hormone
and improve the neurasthenic and stop the
deterioration of nerve function. Meanwhile, tea oil
contains a bit of specific physiological vigorous
substances --- camellia glycoside for heart
invigoration, camellia saponin for melting blood
thrombus and preventing blood vessel diseases due to
cirrhosis of blood vessels, tea polyphenol for
reducing cholesterol and chemical prevention of
tumor---, thus, if taken continually, the oil can
invigorate the blood vessels and digestion,
stimulate productively incretion and immune system.
It also can lower the cholesterol in blood serum,
reduce blood plasma fibrin protein and hyperlipaemia,
lower blood muscovado, obviously cure hypertension
and adiposity, and minimize the risk of coronary
heart diseases and atherosclerosis. Therefore,
senior citizens benefit from eating tea oil and
remain healthy and robust in spite of old age. So,
tea oil is referred as "longevity oil" and
"healthful oil".
